Maricopa Highway: Road Rage Escalates to Gunfire Incident

On Saturday, January 3, 2026, Maricopa Police Department responded to reports of shots fired on the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway near Russell Road shortly after 7 PM. Officers found a single vehicle carrying two adults who had injuries. One adult sustained minor injuries, while the other was transported to the hospital with more serious injuries. Preliminary information indicates that the incident may have begun as a road rage altercation between two vehicles.

Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway is currently closed in both directions between Anderson and Russell Roads. The road remains closed as police continue their investigation. The Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway has been reported reopened at 10:45 PM by the Maricopa Police Department, but earlier updates noted the roadway was closed due to the incident.
