APS, Firehouse Subs Foundation offer grants for first responders in Arizona
Arizona Public Service and Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation are partnering to provide grants for fire departments, law enforcement, emergency medical services, municipal and state organizations, schools, and other nonprofits to purchase life-saving equipment.
Grant applications open April 7, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. Arizona time to eligible organizations within the APS service territory at firehousesubsfoundation.org.
Past recipients have used this support to make a difference in their communities.

Chandler police department opens Criminal Justice Career Week to Teens
Chandler Police Department will host Criminal Justice Career Week for all high school students June 8–11, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with tours of the courthouse, prosecutor’s office and police department, lunch provided and registration required.

Shooting on SR 88 near Apache Junction under investigation
Apache Junction, Ariz. — A suspect fired from a vehicle Thursday night on State Route 88 near milepost 203, injuring a woman with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds; no arrests have been made as the Arizona Department of Public Safety's Major Crimes District leads the ongoing investigation with help from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and the Apache Junction Police Department.

Maricopa County issues heat-safety alert
Maricopa County Public Health issued a heat-safety release titled "Stop, Sip, and Stay Safe!" noting temperatures are 15 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit above normal for this time of year and urging people to drink water before they feel thirsty and to avoid caffeine and alcohol to stay hydrated.

Maricopa Community Colleges Highlight Economic Impact at Capitol
Ten Maricopa Community Colleges gathered at the Capitol for Maricopa Community Colleges Day to highlight programs and the system's impact, which includes more than 600 degree and certificate programs, support for about one in 30 Greater Phoenix jobs and nearly $9 billion in the local economy, and educating more than 140,000 learners each year, according to Chancellor Steven R.
