Stinknet season arrives in Maricopa County, Ariz.

Maricopa County, Ariz. — Stinknet season is here. The weed has yellow button-like flowers and is highly invasive, crowding out native desert plants that the area depends on.

One stinknet plant can produce hundreds of seeds, which can turn a quick chore into a long-term problem if left unchecked.

To remove stinknet safely, use these steps:

  • Wear gloves or use a tool to pull the plant at the base.
  • Bag it immediately to prevent seeds from spreading.
  • Toss the sealed bag in the trash, not green waste.
